When I need to look online for various things, either for reference or to buy something, I like to put to one side the oddities that the internet throws at me, either because the search terms are understandably similar, but the results a bit off kilter, or because something is, perhaps , labelled a bit oddly online. The best results were compiled a while ago here. Here's the 'eh?' haul from looking for the term "Museum Display Stand"... Click for larger images, if intrigued enough!
Now this is a quick and interesting little article here - there's a lot of evidence that our ancestors made common use of drugs and hallucinogenics in various forms. From chewing betel leaves, to magic mushrooms, and of course the fermentation of alcohol, forebears used these for their medicinal, transcendent and stimulant properties. I once had an archaeology trip to a forsaken lump of rock in the bum end of Wales, which was a prime ceremonial stone axe quarry site. The lecturer suggested that the continued abundance of magic mushrooms in the area may have been present in prehistoric times as well, making the site renowned for visions, and therefore the nearby rock was deemed special.* So what, you may think? Well, the next time someone wonders "Why did they build Stonehenge etc?" the answer could amusingly be "Cause it was a great spot to pick up drugs" or simply "The rainbow unicorn told them to." *N.B. If one will tell a group of students that they are stood on a site prime for magic mushrooms, make sure one has presence of mind to advise about not trying them, just to cover one's own back as the educator broadly in charge of them. |
