Bottoms up!

People looking at labels in a museum exhibition
Blockbuster exhibition, backbreaking label placement. Kinky design staff?

Although the space for this otherwise stellar exhibition was an amusing sea of bums whenever you looked up, it felt as though the standard label height caused two issues. Firstly, almost all visitors felt it necessary to bow, crouch, or somehow adjust their posture to read the labels, which over any length of time causes aches and pains (visible through a lot of people bracing, stretching out, etc). Secondly, the label height didn't easily allow for visitors to peer over/between the shoulders of anyone in front without looming or bending over them. The general public, naturally, don't think "I'll wait a mo" so it made for a very, close, experience, of unwanted contact, apology, near headbutts and oblivious unpleasant spatial intrusion.

I can see the logic, I can understand searching for a medium ground for accessibility, also perhaps the desire to give the objects more space, I just wish it had gone though some more testing prior to use.

"I'm opening this door for a bit."
"Oh, because it's so warm?"
"No-ooo, because -"
"OH! why does it smell of cheese in there?!"
🤷

Welcome to hot museum summer.

Not Dead!

21/2/2023

You recall how people started to point out, during the peak pandemic, that it was unrealistic to expect people to "use all that time productively" because a lot of people were just about coping with everything going on?

Well I figure that now we're in *checks calendar* February 2023, I should perhaps resurface and say that Attendant's View is not dead, merely sleeping.

I had a few bursts of activity in the 'downtime' and tried to get comic ideas, some many years old, drawn up. I even got some things completed and scanned digitally. I started to write up a few blog posts *glances at the drafts button* But by and large, AV was just... not high on my list. My attention slid off it, aside from a few instances where vitriol had to burst through, or something amused me enough and could be shared briefly in text.

Twitter has been a bit more active for Attendant's View, thanks to the ability to quickly share thoughts, and following some great accounts with very retweetworthy content - so if you do twitter, you may want to pop over to https://twitter.com/AttendantsView

Content may appear here, I'll let you know when the beast awakens on social media, so keep an eye out there.

Cleanliness is next to... the staff area

You ever exit a staff area and immediately encounter a visitor not-surreptitiously-enough wiping their nose on the scarf they're wearing, in what they obviously assumed was a quiet and unobserved area of the museum?

No?
Lucky you.

Hole in my shoe

There's a visitor somewhere in here with one damp shoe.

Echoing gently across the room, between displays and cabinets, is the constant sad noise of "squick", timed to alternate steps.

Them's the rules

If you're walking around the museum with a cleaning cloth in each hand, at some point you have to engage in faux Morris Dancing.

Look, I don't make the rules, I merely observe them.
