He wasn't bothered how much it did or didn't cost to get into the gallery.
He just didn't want to be there full stop.
And wasn't worried who know it.

History repeating...

Spotted this ace image with the tagline: "Dorm parties at Princeton sometimes got a little wild in 1889." on the rather wonderful princetonarchives.tumblr.com. Couldn't help thinking that with today’s hipster and chap cultures, there are a lot of modern day dorm party photographs which look pretty much the same.

Do check out the Princeton Archive site, they have an eye for the amusing and surreal from their archives, as well as seminal pieces of news as reported at the time they happened.

Gender Neutral sign used on Unisex Museum Toilets

Sweden's Sigtuna Museum has made a stir, by adding a gender neutral sign to its toilets.*

“It's interesting to use this symbol especially at a museum with historical exhibitions like Sigtuna because it's important to understand that LGBT has existed in all times, it's not something that was invented in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It would be interesting if the sign could perhaps make visitors think about questions such as 'what was it like to be gay in the Viking Age or transgender in the 1500s?'” said Hedengren.

Full story here.
*Which in no way changes who uses which toilets, as many public toilets in Sweden are unisex, so everyone enters the same room, and then just chooses which available cubicle to use.

Open Mic for museums folks

13/4/2015

If you are ever after something informative, often funny and sometimes a bit odd in your calendar of entertainment, have a look at upcoming events from Museums Showoff .

Join them (usually) down the pub, and you may find yourself listening to opinions on Workforce Diversity, learning about everything in your museum that might kill you (arsenic, explosives, lead...), and sharing experiences from setting fire to artwork through to use of vodka in project management.

It's a grand idea - an " open mic night featuring curators, conservators, librarians, collectors, Museum Studies students, archaeologists, social historians, educators, multimedia developers, explainers, visitors, theorists and everyone else associated with museums and library special collections." Those who have signed up to speak have about 9 minutes to spout forth on whatever they fancy, as long as it'll be broadly of interest to the relevant audience.

They're now breaking out of London, and heading to Yorkshire, so keep an eye out, and grab a ticket, or add them to an upcoming London visit.

I've been busy of late, so rather than badly drawn cartoons, I have a series of exciting new 'publications' for you!
Here is issue #3 of "What in the Blue Blazes"
Issue 1
Issue 2
Exciting Tales of Science!
Previous fun with the pulp-o-mizer:
Issue 1
Issue 2
Issue 3
Go and have a go at making your own pulp tales covers,  as it's very easy to edit once you prod it a bit, and has great potential for entertaining things to stick on the staff notice board.
