So as I'm in a mood about fire alarms going off, legal issues over incorrect fine print requiring me to destroy some already completed work, endless customer queries about bank holiday opening hours, a pile of query emails and a display screen loosing all it's display formatting, the Make A Wish foundation get in touch to arrange a visit for a terminally ill 12 year old, and his family.
Suddenly, the troubles of a grumpy Exhibitions Manager seem a bit inconsequential.

Some years ago now a family and their teenage daughter spent a day with my colleagues and I, learning how to create replica period costume, as she had long been fascinated by the Tudor style. Dressing up, selecting jewellery, sewing feathers to hats, taking pictures in the great hall - it was heart wrenching each time I suddenly remembered that this vibrant teenager, acting just like an excited girl, would be gone in a matter of months. It was very rewarding to hear from the family how much that bright day helped them all through the very dark times, and we all held onto the knowledge that she had enjoyed what time she'd had.

Thank you so much Iris for you very kind words and thoughts. The Make a wish foundation do amazing work for all involved, and few people realise what they provide. It is so much more than a day out, or swimming with dolphins, it is having pure fun and being able to forget for even a few seconds about the struggle.
